Linux isn't just less expensive in terms of licensing fees, it is also more stable, requiring less maintenance. MSWindows-based servers often require daily security updates and daily rebooting. Linux based servers often run for months before requiring a restart, and that is usually because of new features that are added to the server, not because of security holes that have been patched. The stability of a Linux platform allows a "set it up and forget about it" type of maintenance plan, meaning that it does not require daily monitoring and maintenance.

By using Linux, Cambium has been able to add features to our Content Mangagement System that wouldn't be possible on a MSWindows based server. Some of these features include spell checking, dynamic image resizing, and dynamic image creation.
